Desde La trágica historia del doctor Fausto de Marlowe hasta hoy han pasado más de cuatro siglos durante los cuales la ciencia y el teatro han desarrollado un tipo de interacción que ha permitido que ideas o personajes científicos tuvieran un papel importante en el escenario. Pero es en especial durante la última década, cuando el número de obras de teatro que incorporan elementos provenientes de la ciencia se ha incrementado especialmente. El espacio teatral se ha convertido así en el principal escenario artístico para una exploración profunda de las relaciones entre Ciencia y Humanidades.
En este contexto, y en el marco del Programa Mestizajes, tendrá lugar este Viernes 21 de Julio una charla titulada Science and Contemporary Theater. A Symbiotic Relationship? presentada por el Prof. Gabriel Cwilich. El encuentro tendrá lugar a las 12:00h en el auditorio del DIPC (en San Sebastián) y la entrada es libre y gratuita hasta completar aforo.

In this talk I will describe the interesting phenomenon that developed over the last two decades in which playwrights turned increasingly their interest and curiosity towards scientific subjects, and managed not only to reflect in their creation the world, circumstances and tribulations of the scientists, but also the express their scientific ideas and, in many cases with great success, to weave them in the very dramatic structure of their plays. I will also show how in some cases in the process of creation and staging of their plays they interact directly with scientists. I will survey a few of the most interesting theatrical experiences in that respect, as well as describe my personal involvement over the years with the Alfred Sloan Foundation, through their program of «Pubic Understanding of Science and Technology” and with a few theater companies which they support.
